How did you first learn about CarePort and what drew you in?
I was initially contacted by a recruiter, who saw that I had a strong background in payer sales. I have been working with payers since March of 1995, so over the last, roughly 25 years, I have seen the industry and technology evolve. As part of my experience, I recently got involved in clinical data exchange, which in turn opened my eyes to the value of clinical data for health insurance companies. After talking with folks at CarePort, as well as my personal history of being a caregiver for my parents, it made complete sense to come work here.
Payer sales is new to CarePort. What sparked this growth for a technology platform historically not in this space?
Medicare Advantage is the fastest growing product offering in hopes of driving down cost, increasing quality, and getting consumers more engaged with their health plan. And the baby boomers are really the first generation of computer savvy retirees, so they’re the target to fully take advantage of this. It seems every health plan is getting into Medicare Advantage and certainly Medicare these days. That’s a big target population for us.
CarePort is in a perfect place to enable health plans to manage member outcomes by improving the quality of care and streamlining member transitions across the continuum.
What is your favorite aspect of your job?
I love getting to know new people and understand what they’re trying to accomplish, and then determine if there’s a strong fit. For me, the opportunity to help existing customers or new customers continue to increase their value and understand how they’re evolving into the new world of value-based care and value-based reimbursement; that’s a lot of fun.
Are you a binge reader or binge watcher?
Binge watcher, definitely. My guilty vice is any historical show like Downtown Abbey and The Crown. My family has traveled to about 9 different countries together, so we also watch a lot of travel and cooking shows to learn about other cultures.
What is the first thing you would buy if you won the lottery?
I have two kids, and in the last two years became a grandfather! If I won the lottery, I would buy a big beach house, so all of my family would come visit regularly.
What do you like to do when you are not working?
In the last ten years, I’ve really embraced golf – even though the course wins every time. I like that it requires a lot of focus and attention to detail, and that you’re really playing against the golf course, not the people you’re with. It is a great social activity that I can do with my friends and family.
