You began working at Allscripts nearly 9 years ago, and have been with CarePort for 2 years. Can you describe what your position at CarePort entails?
I work at CarePort’s Pune, India office as a Principal Data Analyst where I am mainly responsible for three different areas: data reporting, analytics and analysis. With access to all data, my primary job is to be a bridge between data and CarePort leadership across different domains. I work with every domain and their respective team to analyze data and deliver actionable information within a short timeframe, to help them better understand historical, current and predictive views of business operations – and so that they can make informed business decisions.
When I started my journey at CarePort, there was an enormous opportunity to add analytics and AI to the platform, and I had a chance to set up everything from scratch. Fortunately, I received guidance from CarePort employees, incuding Scott Kerber and Swapnil Joshi, to help my understanding of the technical and functional area of business. I currently work in four different areas: Salesforce/ServiceNow CRM tools – where customers log their issues related to CarePort products, inbound and outbound call details, the legacy Allscripts Care Management product, and CarePort Guide. Through my management of this data, all teams can access complex data that is presented in a similar format, and make better decisions based on real insights – all in just a few clicks.
My main objective is to contribute value to the business. If I am doing something helpful for others and make a difference then I think, I am doing my job correctly. Directly or indirectly, I’m a part of customer service and I am happy that I can contribute my skills in such a way that it helps our customers and always try to come up with new ideas that will influence the growth.
You work on CarePort’s overseas team, and are based in India – but you work with people across the world. Can you share your experience in working with a global team?
90% of my job is with the CarePort Global team, and 10% is with the CarePort India team. I have worked with nearly every department on the global team. When there is a request for a report, dashboard, or analysis with identifying patterns and trends in data sets and end-to-end automation, I help them achieve their requirement.
The benefit of working with the Global team is that I get to know and work with brilliant minds from all over the world on a daily basis. I have the chance to meet experts from different domains who have unique and out-of-the-box ideas. Working with the Global team gives me a clear and exact view of how all teams are collaborating, and how as a company we are working toward customer satisfaction. Working with others in different time zones has improved my ability to think quickly, problem solve and communicate.
The best part about working at CarePort is having the opportunity to work directly with CEO and founder Lissy Hu. What more can I ask? When I began working at CarePort and received an email from Lissy – the founder of CarePort, who created everything – it was a thrilling experience for me. That’s the beauty of my job.
What’s an important career skill or lesson you’ve learned and can share with us?
There have been times when I’ve been very unsure about how I should move ahead. When I say, “move ahead,” I mean I had to decide what excites me most and challenges me so that I will continue to enjoy work every day. After a couple of years of analysis and deep thinking, I finally came to the conclusion that we can’t select a career based on advice or instruction. At the end of the day, all that matters is what you love to do and motivates you. Don’t select a career path just to earn money, select a career that you enjoy most, and where the work is always fun. If you’re working but never enjoy it, then you’re wasting your time. Sometimes we already know the answer, but a push is very much required.
What do you like to do in your spare time outside of work?
In my spare time outside of work, I like to spend time with my family. I have a beautiful wife and a daughter who is nearly three years old, and the three of us enjoy going to different places together. My wife also works, so we sometimes struggle to dedicate enough time to one another. Right now, during COVID-19, we have had an amazing chance to work from home together, and we can spend more time with our daughter and watch her grow up. That’s the silver lining of this pandemic.
I am also very fond of exploring different types of cuisine. Discovering new food while traveling to different places is always a great experience and provides good memories.
For a bit of adventure, I also like to go trekking. This is something new that I enjoy. For me, It’s good to do things that aren’t related to work because sometimes it feels like everything revolves around work.
Do you have a favorite quote?
I am a crazy fan of the American TV series, “Suits,” and its main character, Harvey Specter! A quote that Harvey Specter often says has stuck with me: “Life is this. I like this.” When he says, “Life is this,” he puts one hand low, and when he says, “I like this,” he puts his other hand up high. The quote has always provided me with great motivation. This quote reminds me that no matter how difficult the situation, if we have the confidence and passion to achieve something in our lives – even something out-of-the-box – we have to be strong and do our best. That quote always drives me most, and whenever I feel low, I listen to the quote and repeat it.
If you had to eat one food every single day, what would it be?
In India, we eat rice and dahl – I’ve eaten it since childhood. These are the only foods I can eat every single day, no matter the age or where I am. It’s not like I don’t eat anything else, but if I had to survive off of only rice and dahl, I definitely could.
